THE EFFECT OF USING COMIC AND CARTOON FILM ON NARRATIVE WRITING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 14 SAMARINDA ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017a

The purposes of the study are: (1) To know the narrative writing achievement of the students before and after been taught by using comics and cartoon films. (2) To know the narrative writing achievement of the students who are taught by using comics and cartoon films and those who are taught without using comics and cartoon films. (3) To find out the significant difference of the narrative writing achievement of the students before and after been taught by using comics and cartoon films. (4) To find out the significant difference on the narrative writing achievement of the students who are taught by using comics and cartoon films and those who are taught without using comics and cartoon films.

In this study, Quasi-experimental design was used. The sample of the study consisted of three classes with the total of students are 91 students. There were three groups, control group (using conventional teaching method), experimental comic group (using comic as a media in teaching learning), and experimental cartoon film group (using cartoon film as a media in teaching learning). The research instrument of this study was narrative writing test. To analyze the data, ANOVA was used on SPSS 20 Program to see the significant difference on students‟ narrative writing achievement among the students who were taught by using comics and cartoon films and those who were taught without using comics and cartoon films.

The result of this research found that the mean score of students before treatment in the control group was 43 then it increased to 60,96 after treatment. Before the treatment, the score of the experimental comic group was 41,98 then, it increased to 68,35 after treatment. Meanwhile, the score of the experimental cartoon film group before the treatment was 41,33 then it increased to 72,31 after treatment. From the computation by using ANOVA, it was found that the F-value was 3,880, it was higher than F-table on scale 3,100. It can be concluded that there was significant difference on the narrative writig achievement between the students who taught by using comics and cartoon films and those who were taught without using comics and cartoon films.
