This thesis concerned with the investigation of the vocabulary profile in the reading materials in English Textbook entitled “English in Focus for the seventh Grade students of Junior High School (SMP)”. That vocabulary is important not only for learning a language itself but also for the language for communication.
The research design is content analysis, in this research the researcher only focused to analyze the vocabulary in reading materials in English textbook. The researcher identified and classified the vocabulary in reading materials in “English in Focus for Grade VII Junior High School (SMP)” textbook.
The findings showed that: on the vocabulary list based on parts of speech, there are 7 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled The Sea Eagle, 7 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled Come to Our Hotel, 6 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled Nusa Tenggara, 7 kinds of word part of speech from the text entitled Recount Text, 8 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled Recount Text II, 7 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled The Prince and His Best Friends, 8 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled My Personal Experience, 6 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled My Football Experience, and 7 kinds of word parts of speech from the text entitled The Caliph and The Clown.
The suggestion is this research only focused on parts of speech in the reading materials in the English textbook. The future researcher is suggested to conduct a similar research which covers all of the English skills in the textbook. The future researcher is also suggested to analysis or classifies each part of speech in details, such as noun in proper noun, common nouns, countable, concrete and so on.
