THE EFFECTS OF STUDENTS’ TAKING ENGLISH COURSE DURING JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN LEARNING ENGLISH BY THE FIRST YEAR STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 5 SAMARINDA

English course is one solution and place for studying English outside at school. By the reason, the researcher conducted this study to know students’ achievement in learning English between students’ who have taken and who have not taken English course during junior high school in the first grade of SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda. The purpose of this research is to know students’ achievement in learning English between students’ who have taken and who have not taken English course and which one has the better result.
The population of this research is the all students in the first grade of SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda. The population was divided into two groups, they are; 30 students who have taken English course and 30 students who have not taken English course. These two groups of the student would be of source of evidences.
The result of this research showed that the mean score of the students who have taken English course is 87.40. It means that the students who have taken English course have excellent mastery. The mean score if the students who have not taken English course is 58.73. It means that the students who have not taken English course have fair mastery. Based on the data analysis it showed that t value is 16.03 and t table is 2.02 at the 5% significant level. It means that t value (16.03) is higher than t table (2.02). It can be concluded that there is significant difference between students who have taken and who have not take English course in the first grade students of SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda. In other word, whichs by students who have taken English course have better English achievement than students who have not taken English course.
