ABSTRACT

Masculinity is something that points to male characteristics. In Prince of Persia movie (2010) the main character shown the characteristics of masculinity that is seen by the action and dialogue of Dastan. This research discusses the masculinity in the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie. The process is taken as the object of investigation in the study since the researcher was curious about the problem number one about characteristics of masculinity can be found in dialogues in the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie. To get the answer of the problem, the researcher used theory of Janet Saltzman Chafetz to do the analysis. The purposes of the research is to described the characteristics of masculinity in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie and explain the character of Dastan as the main character in movie. Through the concept of representation from Janet Shaltzman Chafetz, the researcher studied seven areas of the main character, they are Physic, Function, Sexual Aggressive, Emotion, Intellectual, Personality and Other Personal Characteristics.

The researcher used descriptive qualitative design analysis method to analyze it. This analysis also focuses on characteristics of masculinity in the movie. The data are collected from the dialogues in the script and some pictures in the movie. The researcher did the research by watching the movie, reading the movie script, identifying the dialogues that have characteristics of masculinity, and captured and took the picture from result of capture and quotes the required expression from the story that support this research. From the data collection, the researcher described the characteristics of masculinity. The findings show that are seven characteristics of masculinity, namely Physic, Function, Sexual Aggressive, Emotion, Intellectual, Personality, and Other Personal Characteristics. in conclusion, it can be stated that the masculinity shown by the character of Dastan as the Prince of Persia who has a strong, brave, leadership, hard work to save Persian city, good intellectual, logical, objective, practical, independent and responsible character.
