Abstract
This study attempts to know the correlation between internet usage and writing performance. A lot of information provided by internet gives advantages in educational activity especially in writing activity.

The problem of this study formulated as “Is there any relationship between internet usage and writing assignment of the fifth semester students of Mulawarman University. The purpose of study was to know whether the internet usage had any relationship with the writing assignment.

This study used correlational design. The first variable of this study was internet usage and the second variable was writing assignment. Data on internet usage were obtained from questionnaire and data on writing performance were taken from writing about argumentative writing. The sample of this study was 50 random students of fifth semester of Mulawarman University. The writer took 10 students as a try out questionnaire sample. Data were analyzed using Product Moment Formula.

This study found the result of analysis as follows. From the results of r-test calculation, the researcher found r- value = 0.839. Then, this result was compared to r-table with level of significant at 0.05 or α = 5% and N= 50. Based on the criteria, r-value (0.839) was higher (>) than r-table (0.297). This meant that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the study was significant. The result meant that internet usage relates to writing performance and this study had positive correlation. Internet could be a media to help student finished and developed students’ writing because internet can provide a lot of information as writing topic. In other word, the result can be interpreted that the more students use the internet, the better writing performance result is.
