ERROR ANALYSIS IN STUDENT’S NARRATIVE TEXT IN TRANSLATION CLASS OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF KUTAI KARTANEGARA UNIVERSITY IN ACADEMY 2014/2015

Translation is one subject of student’s of English Department which necessary to be mastered in language training. The English narrative text is as one of a source language which translate into Indonesian narrative text as one of a target language.
This research took by translation product of narrative text of different translators in translation class of fifth semester students and they were depended on a source of Indonesian translated narrative text which problems of the study were what kinds of errors made by students in translating English sentence, phrase, and t kinds of lexical meaning errors were made by the students in English narrative text into Indonesian.
The study used methodology of research of descriptive qualitative content analysis of the narrative text from English to Indonesian. The total number of the subject was fifth semester students of class B from class B English Department of Teacher Education and Training’s Faculty of Kutai Kartanegara University in Translation Subject in academic year of 2014/2015 which used in a convenience sampling which taken 16 students as the sample research.
The kinds of errors in translating English into Indonesian in narrative text were: in sentence, missing to substitute the constituent of sentences, omission of sentence constituent, missing to transfer English sentence constructions; in phrases: missed to translate noun phrases, missed to translate verb phrases, missed to translate adjective phrases, and missed to translate prepositional phrases; and in lexical meaning: lexical meaning errors of words, lexical meaning errors of phrases, and lexical meaning errors of clauses.
The research found that assessing of 16 students’ errors in translating, the total frequencies of errors in the sentence, phrase, and lexical meaning was 295 with the total scores were 460 items which consisted from the most frequency of error in lexical meaning were 154 and 282 scores, second most error position was in the errors in phrases were 76 frequencies with 60 scores and the least error was made 65 frequencies with 118 scores. The total frequency of errors in the assessment category was 295 frequencies. The most frequencies of errors in the readability level were 151 frequencies, the second position was in the acceptance level in 98 frequencies, and the least of errors was in the accuracy levels in 46 frequencies.
