The Marriage Story film, directed by Noah Baumbach, deals with a couple going through a divorce and the struggle of Nicole Barber to get her freedom, rights, and opportunities. This study aims to analyze how Nicole Barber’s characterization reflects liberal feminism values in the film Marriage Story. This research used liberal feminism theory from Mill, Tong, and Trebilcot as well as Boggs and Petrie’s characterization theory. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method and a feminist approach to analyze liberal feminism, as reflected by Nicole Barber. The finding of this research demonstrated that, in line with the theory employed by the researcher, Nicole Barber’s characterizations reflect the values of liberal feminism, namely equal liberty, gender justice, and mono-androgyny. It can be concluded that Nicole Barber is identified as a liberal feminist.
