THE INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCES OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS PARTICIPATING IN STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM IN THE PHILIPPINES
This study explores the adaptability skills of three pre-service teachers during a student exchange program in the Philippines, focusing on their development and the challenges faced in adapting to a new cultural and academic environment. Using qualitative methods, data were gathered through interviews, and relavant document. The findings reveal that participants developed cognitive adaptability by overcoming linguistic challenges and adjusting teaching strategies, emotional adaptability by navigating culture shock and fostering empathy for cultural differences, and behavioral adaptability through modifying routines to manage logistical challenges such as food, transportation, and scheduling. Participants encountered notable obstacles, including language barriers in STEM teaching, differing cultural norms, and infrastructure limitations, yet these challenges contributed to their personal and professional growth. This study highlights the transformative impact of student exchange programs in fostering essential adaptability skills, equipping pre-service teachers to thrive in diverse and globalized educational contexts. The researcher suggests that EFL students, program promoters, lecturers, and future researchers work toward enhancing the effectiveness of student exchange programs.
