TEACHERS' PERCEPTIONS OF USING FLASHCARDS AS TOOLS FOR TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY AT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SAMBOJA
This study explored the perceptions of three English teachers at SDN 008 Samboja regarding using flashcards as tools for teaching English vocabulary. Data were collected using a qualitative research design through semi-structured interviews to gain in-depth insights into the teachers‘ perspectives and experiences. The findings revealed three positive perceptions of flashcards: (1) they enhanced
vocabulary acquisition by helping students retain and recall words more effectively; (2) they promoted visual engagement, increasing student interest and participation in lessons; and (3) they facilitated easier understanding of the material through clear and concise visual aids. However, the researcher also identified two challenges faced by the teachers: (1) managing diverse student characteristics, including varying levels of language proficiency, and (2) adapting to different learning styles, which required significant effort in customizing flashcard activities. These findings highlighted the effectiveness of flashcards in vocabulary instruction while emphasizing the need for strategies to address the associated challenges.
