Anti-heroes are not only present in movies and novels but also in comics. Characters like Deadpool and Harley Quinn indicate the trend of anti-heroes, including in comics. As the antithesis of the traditional hero in many ways, anti-heroes are often thought of negatively due to their negative traits, such as dishonesty and foolishness, when in actuality, they also have heroic qualities. Accordingly, more studies and writings of anti-heroes with a more positive view are needed. An anti-hero protagonist is also present in one of the comics titled Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell, which is a webtoon: a type of digital comic that has been popular in recent years. The title itself is so popular with more than a million readers that it is getting its own movie adaptation. This study thus focused on the main protagonist of the webtoon, Paul. Using the anti-hero theory by Wilson et al. (2013) and the theory of characterization methods by Burroway et al. (2019), through a qualitative method and a narrative approach, this study attempted to see how he represents positive anti-hero characteristics, which include empathy, humility, flexibility, the ability to acknowledge uncertainty, and self-awareness. The findings showed that Paul displayed the characteristics through his dialogues, actions, thoughts, and the interpretation by another character. This deepens understanding about anti-heroes, specifically in comics, or to be even more specific, in the comedy genre of comics, by showing how a character from the medium may display anti-hero characteristics.
