Character Development of Namaari in Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) Film
This study aimed to find how the character development of Namaari related to Sigmund Freud’s tripartite psyche theory in the film Raya and the Last Dragon. The theory used to answer the research question is the Psychoanalysis theory conducted by Sigmund Freud that discussed human’s unconsciousness. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method as the research design and used Psychoanalysis as an approach. The data collected consisted of dialogues and narration related to Namaari’s character development. The researcher collected the data by repeatedly watching the film, pay attention carefully to any potentially related data, and quote the data found. The researcher analyzed the data by crosschecking the data that have been collected, presenting the data, analyzing the data using Sigmund Freud’s tripartite psyche theory, and drawing conclusions. This research concluded that Namaari’s id, ego, and superego significantly influence her character development in the film, which follows a positive change arc, as her personality shifts from being fueled by ambition and tribal loyalty to embracing trust and unity, ultimately transforming her from a driven antagonist into a redeemed and trustworthy ally.
