THE USE OF ONLINE ASSESSMENT BY ENGLISH LECTURERS AT UNIVERSITAS OF WIDYA GAMA MAHAKAM SAMARINDA IN THE POST-PANDEMIC COVID-19

The aim of this research is to describe the use of online assessment by English lecturers in the post-pandemic Covid-19. To be more specific, this research aims to discover what the challenges and how to manage it.
In this research, the researcher used qualitative descriptive research. The data was obtained from the interviews and documentations. The research subject was English lecturers at the University Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda. The researcher transcribed the data, coded it, and presented it in a qualitative descriptive.
The results of this study, from the observation and documentation, were the lecturers used several platforms such as YouTube, Google Drive, SPADA, Instagram, and Facebook. The challenges found in this research were varied because in post-pandemic teaching and learning were hybrid. The researcher classified into two categories; Misbehavior problems and Technical problems. Things misbehavior problems included; students’ discipline, students’ plagiarism, students’ passwords, students’ knowledge, and students’ attendance. Meanwhile, the technical problem included students’ internet. Things how to manage the challenges were; First, things about the misbehavior problem, in terms of plagiarism, the lecturer one made a firm rule that she told everyone who plagiarized and not accept the task. Meanwhile, to make a clear deadline and improve students’ discipline. The lecturer two gave them rewards like the gamification concept. Those who submitted the task, and quiz on time would earn a reward and it would be added to their final score at the end of the semester. To solve the challenge of students who did not remember their password and username, lecturer two asked them to use their names as usernames and password using their NPM or student numbers. Some students were not familiar with the LMS so lecturer three explained the features of it before starting the course, at the beginning of the semester. Meanwhile, about the technical problem, the lecturer asked to share the internet data with others. In summary, the researcher found that online assessment somehow appears as the solution to meet the needs of lecturers and students. Due to the lecturer’s hectic schedule, it could make teaching and learning accessible everywhere for students, effective, and reach the target material taught for one semester.
