CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF BIDEN'S SPEECH TOWARDS THE MILITARY POWER OF RUSSIA TO UKRAINE
This research focused on the analysis of text, discursive and sociocultural dimensions in President Joe Biden's speech at the United Nations Headquarters on September 19, 2023, which addressed Russia's military actions in Ukraine. The aimed of this research was to understand how Biden's speech used elements of text dimensions, discursive dimensions, and sociocultural dimensions to conveyed his messages. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method and utilized Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional critical discourse analysis approach. The data were collected by watching Biden's speech, transcribing the speech data, reading and coding, integrating data, and highlighting texts. The findings of this research showed the three dimensions: firstly, the text dimension identified elements that dominated and influenced the speech, such as elements of assonance, derivational forms, and sentence structures in the form of adjectives. Secondly, the discursive analysis identified elements that dominated and influenced the speech, such as the dimension of text elements that revealed Biden's strategic used of language to assert his authority and emphasized international cooperation. Thirdly, the sociocultural analysis identified elements that dominated and influenced the speech, such as life condition and power elements, highlighting his focus on economic reform, political alliances, gender equality, social justice, and cultural inclusiveness.
