This research aims to analyze the preferred and dispreferred of the character’s conversation of the Elemental film. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of preferred and dispreferred responses in the Elemental film. Conversation analysis is the approach used in this research, specifically using the preference structure theory by Levinson stated by Paltridge. This research is classified into descriptive qualitative research and the data is the sentences in the conversation of the characters. Based on the analysis result, the researcher found that preference structures are divided into two which are preferred and dispreferred. The researcher also found five types of preferred and dispreferred response. In preferred response the types are assessment-agreement, invitation or offer-acceptance, request-acceptance, question-expected answer and blame-denial. Dispreferred response types are assessment-disagreement, invitation or offer-refusal, request-refusal, question-unexpected answer or non answer and blameadmission. The result of this research, the character’s fire element family, Ember and Bernie and the water element named Wade, who have the various conflicts they have through each conversation. The adjacency pairs as the actions and preferred and dispreferred answer as the responses are effectively applied through the Elemental film conversation between Ember, Wade, and Bernie. The first pair part and the second pair part that are mostly occurs from the film is blame-denial in preferred responses and question-unexpected answer in dispreferred responses.
