LEARNING STRATEGIES USE BY EFL LEARNERS TO IMPROVE THEIR LANGUAGE SKILLS

Advisors: (I) Dr. Yuni UtamiAsih, M.Pd, (II) Anjar Dwi Astuti, S.S., M. Hum. The main concern of this study was learning strategies use by EFL learners to improve their language skills. The aims of this research are to know the most frequent and least frequent strategies used by students in learning English as a foreign language. In conducting this research, a survey design was used to collectinformation from participants. Survey design is one type of quantitative research design used in this study. The subject of this research was the students from Language Education Program Academic Year, 2021, 2022, and 2023. The total of participants who contributed to this research was 130 students. Moreover, the Language Learning Strategy Questionnaire (LLSQ) was used to know the mostand least strategies used by the students. The result of the research showed that metacognitive strategies are the most frequents strategy used by the students (M=3,575), and the least frequent strategy used by the students was social strategies (M= 3.45). Based on descriptive statistics, the result of this study revealed that metacognitive strategies are the most used strategy, followed by cognitive strategies as a second and the last was social strategies.
