This study analyzes the language style used for Instagram captions written by fifty verified accounts. This study aims to identify the type of language style used and its function. The types of language styles were identified by the researcher using theories by Keraf (2007) and Joos in Coupland (2007), and the function of each language style was determined using theory by Holmes (2013). Furthermore, this study used content analysis in a qualitative design. The source of data was taken from the Instagram captions of fifty verified singer accounts. The result of this study indicates that there are four types of language styles used in this study : formal style, informal style, colloquial or casual style, and intimate style. While, there are five functions used in this study: expressive, directive, referential, poetic, and phatic functions. Through the analysis, the researcher found that a colloquial or casual style is most frequently used. Whereas, the frozen and consultative style was not found in this study. This study shows that every language style has its own function, and it can have multiple or more than one function. This study showed that people can employ a formal language style when making announcements or giving instructions. Conversely, all language functions such as offering instructions and information, expressing emotions, solidarity, and empathy can be represented through the use of informal, colloquial or casual styles. The final type of language is intimate style, which represents the expressive, directive, poetic, and phatic functions. Nevertheless, we cannot use this style to present the referential function.
