This research aims to determine the function of slang and cultural references reflected in the Black Panther movie. Qualitative method is used to identify the function of slang and cultural references of slang words reflected in the Black Panther movie. Data analysis is content analysis, with library research and internet research data collection methods. The object of this research study is the movie Black Panther which was released in 2018. The result of the research is that there are seven functions of slang according to Allan & Burridge, namely to address, to form intimate atmosphere, to initiate relaxed conversation, to express impression, to reveal anger, to humiliate, and to show intimacy. There are three data regarding to address, three data regarding to form intimate atmosphere, five data regarding to initiate relaxed conversation, seven data regarding to express impression, two data regarding to reveal anger, one data regarding to humiliate, and three data regarding to show intimacy. Apart from that, there are also cultural references reflected in the slang words. There are three data regarding values, one data regarding attitude, two data regarding behavior, and three data regarding beliefs. It can be conclude that among those seven function of slang, to express impression was the most frequent function of slang used. Many characters in this film express their impressions in conversation. They feel angry and don't accept evil people who try to steal the resources that Wakanda has. In the movie Black Panther, there are aspects of ancestors and belief in ancestral spirits as important factors in this film. Through the Black Panther movie, we are able to invite audiences all over the world to remember and be proud of the cultural heritage of their ancestors.
