DEVELOPING A DIGITAL FLIPBOOK AS SUPPLEMENTARY LISTENING MATERIAL FOR THE 1 ST GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The development of digital flipbook as supplementary listening material was explored for the My Next Words textbook of 1st-grade elementary school. The objectives of this research were to investigate the need analysis, to determine the development phase, and to know the acceptable of digital flipbook as supplementary listening material. The research conducted the ADDIE approach, an acronym for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. According to the needs analysis, the needs of students in learning English were determined by understanding vocabulary, proper pronunciation, and song aids in teaching. However, several lacks were found: the limited attention span of students, occasional interest in English, students’ lack of English skill, unavailable audio, and limited time in English class. Therefore, interesting material for listening practice was required to fill the gaps. Thus, a digital flipbook as supplementary listening material was developed. The development phase of the prototype determined the topics, material organization, material layout with Canva, generate Audio with Voicemakers, and teacher’s guide. Through the implement phase, a pilot test confirmed the usability of the prototype. Both students and the English teacher could implement the prototype and emphasize the need for adequate facilities and for the future development of more videos for engaging multimedia content to support effective learning. The quality assessment for evaluate stage in ADDIE was done by using QuADEM with five aspects of evaluation units. The QuADEM results ranged from 43 to 46. Moreover, the high validity and reliability of the instrument were shown in high value. For validity, the content validity by Aiken Index value ranging from 0.933 to 1.0 was interpreted as valid for every evaluation unit. To determine the scoring agreement among three experts, the inter-rater reliability results were high with interclass correlation (ICC=0.989) and Cohen’s kappa (K=0.897) signaling almost perfect agreement among experts. The scoring for evaluation units in QuADEM from three experts was the same in the Content (M=2) and Usability (M=1.75), while different in Learning objective (M=1.83), Style and language (M=1.86), and Multimedia (M=1.73). The overall judgment of the experts, showed that at the same and in other research settings the prototype indicated an excellent predicate which means it was acceptable. The future researcher was suggested to conduct studies about the use of the prototype.
