This study investigated the language politeness strategies used by grade 11 students at SMAN 2 Samarinda when communicating with teachers and peers during the learning process. It aimed to identify the specific strategies employed and the factors influencing these choices. The study focused on students at SMAN 2 Samarinda and utilized a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection involved observing and interviewing participants, specifically three students from an advanced English class. For data analysis, the framework proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) was used, which categorizes politeness strategies into four types. The analysis of the students' speech revealed the presence of all four types of politeness strategies: Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off-Record. These strategies are influenced by various factors, including payoff, relative power, and social distance.
