This research analyzes the level of racism and responses against racism in Loving Film. The objective of this study is to describe how these two theories are represented through interracial couples in the Country of Caroline, State of Virginia in the film. The data of theories shown through racist phenomenon that occurred toward the couple and their responses against those phenomena. This is qualitative research. The data are dialogues and scenes that are related to the level of racism and response against racism. The data are analyzed and processed using these theories. Richard and Mildred experienced discrimination with the institutional racism and they response with the acceptance. The institution punished them both because of their interracial marriage. Richard and Mildred also gave bad impressions even though they were of the same race as internal racism and Richard response with verbal confrontation. Based on these conditions, it is understandable that interracial couples often struggle with ethnic stereotypes and racism which can cause the problem in relationship. How ever, this did not mean Richard and Mildred would end their relationship as an interracial married couple. They accept the existing situation and respond to the negative responses. By mimetic the racism to interracial couple still happen in society. Interracial marriages more common now but not without challenges. Interracial marriages can be more difficult because they’re more multilayered there comes into play a lot more barriers then what a non-interracial couple will have to face. Many interracial couples are feeling increased anxiety, with hated public debated on issues involving racial justice, immigration and event direct attack on minority groups.
