Sintaksis adalah struktur kalimat, aturan penggunaan yang ditetapkan untuk pengaturan kata – kata dalam kalimat menjadi bentuk dan hubungan yang tepat. Untuk lebih memahami tentang sintaksis, penulis menyajikan “The Syntax Analysis on Sentence Patterns Used in Louis Tomlinson’s Song Lyrics” album Walls dengan menggunakan teori pola kalimat dari Quirk and Greenbaum. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan teori diagram pohon dari O’Grady, Dobrovolsky, dan Katamba untuk membantu penulis dalam menganalisis pola kalimat. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat yang berkaitan dengan analisis pola kalimat khususnya pada lagu Two of Us, Defenceless, dan Kill My Mind. Dari hasil penelitian, melalui kalimat – kalimat yang dipilih oleh penulis, penulis menemukan bahwa jumlah pola kalimat yang paling banyak terdapat pada lirik lagu Louis Tomlinson adalah pola kalimat 3: S + Vt + dO yang digunakan sebanyak 5 kali. Terakhir, terdapat 3 pola yang tidak digunakan sama sekali, yaitu pola kalimat 1: S + LV + A, pola kalimat 6: S + Vt + iO + dO, dan pola kalimat 7: S + Vi. Pola – pola tersebut tidak digunakan karena penulis tidak menemukan data atau lirik pada lagu – lagu Louis Tomlinson dan pemilihan kalimat – kalimat dalam album Walls yang menggunakan pola – pola tersebut.

Syntax is the structure of sentences, the established rules of usage for arrangement of the words of sentence into their proper forms and relation. To get more understanding about syntax, the writer presents the syntax analysis on sentence patterns used in Louis Tomlinson song lyrics with album Walls by using the theory of sentence patterns by Quirk and Greenbaum. This research also used the theory of tree diagram by O’Grady, Dobrovolsky, and Katamba to help the writer in analysing sentence patterns. In this study the writer used qualitative method. The data of this research are words, phrases, and sentences related to the analysis of sentence pattern especially in Two of Us, Defenceless, and Kill My Mind song. From the result, through the sentences selected by the writer, the writer found that the most number of the sentence pattern in Louis Tomlinson’s song lyrics is sentence pattern number 3: S + Vt + dO which is used for 5 times. Finally, there are three patterns which are not used at all, which are sentence pattern number 1: S + LV + A, sentence pattern number 6: S + Vt + iO + dO, and sentence pattern number 7: S + Vi. Those patterns were not used because the writer did not find any data or lyrics in Louis Tomlinson songs and chosen sentences in Walls album that use any of those patterns.
