As social beings, people create good relations with others through communication. In this communication, people need strategies in order to make comfortable interactions with the interlocutor. One of the communication strategies mentioned in sociolinguistics was politeness. In this study, politeness was discussed through language in a movie entitled Mulan (1998). Therefore, the researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The purpose of this study was to find out the positive politeness strategies and the negative politeness strategies that uttered by the main character in Mulan (1998) movie. The researcher chose theory from Brown and Levinson (1987) about politeness strategy. After analyzing the data, the researcher found 11 utterances represented of positive politeness strategy and 6 utterances represented of negative politeness strategies used by the main character, Mulan, in the movie. From 15 positive politeness strategies, only 7 strategies were used by Mulan in this movie. Whereas, from 10 negative politeness strategies, only 3 strategies that emerged in Mulan (1998) movie.
