An Analysis on the External Conflicts and Personality of the Main Character in Get Out Film
This research gave insight on external conflicts and personality of the main character in Get Out film. In this research, the researcher used theory by William Kenney’s conflict and Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis. This research used a qualitative method. Based on the result of data analysis, there were two external conflicts, namely man vs man and man vs society. In man vs man included Chris versus Rose, Rod, Jeremy, Dean, Missy, and, Logan. This conflict shows the opposition between self-interest, distrust,betrayal, and oppression. In man vs society included chris versus Rose’s family. This conflict is against social structures that his discriminate and freedom in the face of social pressure and unjust
norms.The conflicts led the researcher to three main personalities were id, ego, and superego of the main character, Chris Washington. His id represented the desire to commit violence and acts of revenge. This impulsive reaction arises as an immediate response to the threat he faces, without considering the consequences. His ego understood and evaluated situations wisely, control emotions, and think logically to find a way out of the problems faced. His superego represented his moral awareness and desire to understand the situation better, as well as his willingness to resolve the conflict with a more peaceful approach.
