This thesis is entitled Mimicry and hibridity in chinese society as portrayed in Ip Man 4: The Finale film. This research aims to do analysis on Mimicry and hybridity in Ip Man 4 film and used Homi K. Bhabha’s theory. This research was also conducted to discuss more broadly how the characters depicted in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale relate to western culture and create a new way of life. The forms of mimicry and hybridity represented by Chinese characters in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale are based on their practice of applying western culture where this practice is based on the desire to become more modern like western countries. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to examine cultural adaptation by analyzing the context of events in the story and the way the characters deal with each event around them. Researchers reveal that the process of cultural adaptation can be seen through the way each individual responds to western culture in their environment.The results showed that forms of Mimicry and hybridity carried out by Chinese people in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale. For the sake of modernity, there are 4 characters, namely Mr. Ip, Yonah Wan, Bruce Lee, and Sergeant Hartman. The hybridity found in Chinese people is shown through properties in the form of Wing Chun martial arts equipment and buildings, as well as language, namely English, while Mimicry is represented by Chinese Characters through gestures and language.
