The Psychological Conflict of Takao Kasuga as the Main Character in the The Flower of Evil Manga
This study aimed at analyzing the main character’s psychological conflicts within the The Flower of Evil manga. In order to get a more thorough understanding, The Province of Mind theory by Sigmund Freud is used. According to Sigmund Freud, The Province of Mind idea examines the three levels of consciousness that exist in humans: Id, Ego, and Superego. For id, the main character experienced conflict inside him that happened directly, such as stealing and lying. For ego, the main character experienced the feeling of selfishness that happens to satisfy the id’s desire in realistic and socially acceptable ways. For superego, the main character experiences the aspect of personality that determines moral standards and values that we receive from our parents and society about our sense of right and wrong, the example is when the main character feels guilty about his crime and then he reflects on the action and tries to do better for the peace of himself and those around him.
