READER RESPONSE ANALYSIS TOWARDS ANNAS DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDRENS BOOK LITTLE GREY BY SHEVA

The crisis, conflict, and problem-solving scenes in children‟s literature contain ambiguous meanings for those certain readers who do not have many experiences with them. The kind of loss of someone great and kind to them might be unfamiliar because they have never experienced the death of someone they cherished a lot. Yet, many children‟s books focus on the death of the antagonist characters. Based on this thought, the researcher found out that Little Grey by Sheva contains the scene above that has the potential to reach out to this certain reader's emotional feelings. There are also two different types of children readers, as defined by Iser; the implied reader will have an inviting response to the text. As for the actual reader responses will be tinted by their personal experience. Meanwhile, Peter Hunt Stated that the importance of reader-response criticism in the area of children‟s literature lies in what it tells us about two fundamental questions, one about the literature and the other about its young readers. This analysis uses a qualitative research method. The data was collected through the questionnaire of five participants which are: two adults, one young adult, and two children. Based on the responses of five participants, the researcher classified the reader with range-age from below 15 years old as a team from The Younger Participants. The range-age above 20 years old is named The Older Participants. The results showed that both younger participants are two different types of children readers. There is a representation for the implied reader and the actual reader. The Older Participants' positions here showed responses of their differences in experiences and knowledge from these young readers. They see the problem and character from different perspectives, mostly refuting the responses given by the other team, they believe an evil or bad character is the realistic representation of people in real life
