A FEMINIST STYLISTICS IN WILLIAM FAULKNER'S SHORT STORY A ROSE FOR EMILY
This research entitled A Feminist Stylistics in William Faulkner's Short Story A Rose for Emily aims to review the linguistic stylistics that describe how women are presented in a text using a feminist approach, that is, feminist stylistics. This research concentrates on the analysis of linguistic stylistics that discuss linguistic structure and how it affects society of sexist language-use in reality and it may make females cause them to feel that they are not addressed then cause view themselves in a negative or stereotyped way presented in the text and the position of ideas or events depicted in the text. It would be vital to restudy it in another perspective to give deeper understanding in particular by analyzing William Faulkner's short story from a male writer's point of view. Since
this is qualitative research, the object of this research is William Faulkner’s short story A Rose for Emily that indicates gender-specific in the level of words, phrases or sentences, and discourses which become the data of the research. By applying the theory feminist stylistics of Sara Mills to analyze the data was conducted in the data condensation, data display, and drawing or verifying conclusions. In this research, there are several tendencies for women or men to be associated with the text, in which several lexical items indicate gender-specific that women's characters differ from men's in that women are described in terms of their body parts in detail, while men are more likely to be described in terms of their overall appearance. Working through these analyses systematically may help the readers track down how text encodes and presents gender-specific in the text. It also helps the readers to investigate how gender is dealt with in the society as a whole.
