AN ECOCRITICISM ANALYSIS OF HUMANNATURE RELATIONSHIP ON CHUCK NOLAND IN CAST AWAY FILM
This research is mainly focused on the portrayal of the human-nature relationship in the film Cast Away which was directed by Robert Zemeckis through Chuck Noland by using the human-nature relationship approach of ecocriticism theory by Cheryll Glotfelty. The researcher uses qualitative research in the form of explanations and descriptions regarding the scenes in the film Cast Away. The data of the research consists of scenes, dialogues, and behavior of Chuck Noland that contain the portrayals of the aspect of ecology and were collected by watching the film Cast Away several times and then classified each scene based on some indicators that the researcher had determined beforehand. Based on the research that has been conducted, the researcher found a total of seven good portrayals of human-nature relationship in the film Cast Away and then divided these seven good portrayals into two sub-categories which consist of coexistence between humannature and provision between human-nature. The researcher does not include bad portrayals of human-nature relationship in the film Cast Away due to no bad
portrayals were found in the film. The researcher concluded that the Cast Away film depicted the nature as something crucial for humans to stay alive. Humans will always need nature no matter how advanced they are because many resources that humans need like food and water only come from nature.
