Figurative Language in Fly Away Home Written by Dave Cenker
This study presents the figurative language employed in the novel Fly Away Home by Dave Cenker, which is the purpose of this research. The researcher uses stylistic theory by Lethsalu, Liiv, and Mutt. Periphrasis, simile, personification, and antithesis are findings in this study. Periphrasis serves to expand and deepen ideas instead of making it simple. In simile, it can associate unfamiliar descriptions with familiar ones. Personification advances the quality of lifeless objects or abstract concepts that act as human behavior that describe something in
more detail and engage with nature. Antithesis adds a sense of balance to the text, making it easy for the individual to recognize the difference between concepts or arguments. In summary, figurative language describes ideas, objects, or phenomena through broader expressions and presents the language differently.
