RAFIA 2023: A Language Stylistic Analysis of The Sadness Expressions Used by Niki in ‘Nicole’ Album. S1 Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Advisors: (1) Dr. Sunardi, SS., M.Hum., (2) Dr. Aridah, M.A. The purpose of this research is to use stylistic analysis to describe the language style of sadness expressions in the “Nicole” album by Niki. This research was conducted using a content analysis approach based on identified song lyrics. The data were presented in the table and described the findings in descriptive text. A total of twelve songs contained in the “Nicole” album have been subjected to analysis of the language styles present in the whole song. Nevertheless, only a few songs represent sad lyrics using language style. Therefore, it is suggested that the researcher identified the significant lyrics that convey feelings of sadness, which have been analyzed using semantics and pragmatics perspectives. The analysis resulted in a total of 49 lines or sentences from song lyrics that provided language style from semantic perspective included 18 metaphors, 12 hyperboles, 9 idioms, 1 personification, 7 ironies, and 2 similes. Metaphors constitute the predominant characteristic in the semantic examination of song lyrics. The researcher also carried out a pragmatic examination of song lyrics to understand the context of the utterance by the songwriter. The identification of language styles that communicate a sense of sadness was presented through the discovery result 8 metaphors, 4 hyperboles, 3 idioms, and 2 ironies that contributed to the expression of sadness. Meanwhile, the simile and the personification did not contribute to expressing feelings of sadness. Niki's song lyrics effectively communicate the sadness expressions through the style of language. The objective of the researcher is to lessen the possibility of misconceptions about song lyrics through this analysis and comprehending the significance of song lyrics through the application of semantics and pragmatics is a crucial aspect of conveying emotions utilizing a stylistic analysis.
