Investigaring EFL Pre-Service Teachers' Use of Authentic Materials for Teaching Practicum
This study aimed to: (1) identify the criteria used by EFL pre-service teachers for authentic material selection; (2) find the types of authentic materials used by EFL pre-service teachers in their teaching practicum; and (3) know how EFL pre-service teachers used authentic materials in their teaching practicum. This research used a case-study qualitative approach. The participants were two EFL pre-service teachers from the PPG Program of 2023. A semi-structured interview, field notes, and documents were used as the instruments for data collection. The collected data was analyzed thematically. The result showed that EFL pre-service teachers have four criteria for authentic material selection: appropriate in terms of learning objectives, students’ level, students’ interest, socio-cultural. Therefore, there are three types of authentic materials used by EFL pre-service teachers for teaching practicum, including songs recorded are authentic audio materials, videos are authentic audio-visual materials, and brochures and pamphlets are authentic printed materials. In how to use authentic materials, EFL pre-service teachers use authentic materials to find out about real objects or situations related to the topics and learning objectives that have been made. By providing authentic materials that make students interested and experience the real situation.
