ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN SMALL GROUP INTERACTION: A CASE STUDY AT AL-FATH ISLAMIC CENTRE KINDERGARTEN SAMARINDA

The main aim of my research was to introduce small group interaction activities because students difficult interact with their friends if students learn alone. So the researcher want to see how influential students interaction in learning English language using small group.

The problems of study are (1) How do students interact in learning English using small group?, (2) What are the difficulties to interact with other in small group?, and (3) How to solve those difficulties?
The Purpose of the study are: (1) To know how students interact in learning English using small group. (2) To see what the difficulties to interact with other in small group are. (3) To investigate how to solve those difficulties
The design of research was Qualitative method. The data of this study was students in small group interaction in Blue Class at Al-Fath Islamic Centre Kindergarten Samarinda and the teacher and the parent of Al-Fath Islamic Centre Kindergarten Samarinda for interview. To get the data, the researcher applied the Checklist, field notes and tape recorder of English class observations and interview. The data found then were analyzed using Bales’ Interaction Process Analysis and using descriptive technique.
The findings of this study are three points, including (1) The Students interaction in small group can be stated in “positive action” interaction. Mostly, the line of interaction occurred from students in group to show solidarity, Show tension release. (2) Based on the interview, the difficulties interact in small group are: there is still individual characteristic of students and students are usually shy in group so, students are more silence. (3) In solving the difficulties interaction. First, teacher mingled with her students. Sometimes she held her students and she asked her students what are the students learning difficulties in small group. The teacher always invited her students to work together if there are students who play by themselves. Second, the parent usually invited children’s friends to learn and play together in home and sometimes the parent let the children to play outside of house with their friends. So, students are not shy to interact with their friends in school when they are learning in small group.
