This research deals with the racism happened to African American as seen in the novel titled Dear Martin novel written by Nic Stone. This research aims to identify and describe how racism acts potrayed toward African American. This research uses the theory of racism by Gordon Allport who puts racism to five types, verbal antagonism, avoidance, segregation, physical attack, and extermination. This theory is used to identified the types of racism found in the novel. This research is also using the theory of character and characterization by Shlomith R. Kenan to describe the way racism potrayed toward African American people. As the research method, the researcher uses qualitative method. This research shows five types of racism toward African American in the novel. It is verbal antagonism, avoidance, segregation, and physical attack toward African American. All of the white characters shows racism through their acts through indirectly presentation. The purpose of this research is to increase people’s awareness about the negative impacts of racism in social life.
