Most songwriters often use sentences that contain implicit meanings such as figurative language in their song lyrics with the aim of beautifying and also conveying the meaning of the song lyrics more briefly. However, not a few listeners of songs can understand the implicit meaning of the choice of words used by songwriters and this may lead to ambiguity or misunderstanding. Thus, researcher conducted research on an album entitled Walls by Louis Tomlinson with the aim of knowing the literal or true meaning contained in the use of figurative language to avoid ambiguity and misunderstanding as well as the function of each figurative language. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research methodology and Perrine's figurative language theory. The results obtained by the researcher in this research was that there were 10 out of 11 figurative languages used by Tomlinson to embellish the lyrics of his songs, they are; metaphor, simile, overstatement (hyperbole), personification, metonymy, understatement, irony, symbol, paradox, and allegory. In the lyrics of his songs, Tomlinson used metaphor as a means of expression. Therefore, it is the figurative language of metaphor that is mostly used by Tomlinson with the aim of comparing two different objects, especially comparing the people he loves with other different objects. The frequency of metaphors in Louis Tomlinson's lyrics shows that Tomlinson likes to compare two unlike things as his writing style. This is also a creative way to give listeners imaginative pleasure and shorten the lyrics at the same time.
