The Tripartite Role of the Psyche in the Main Character in Turning Red Film
This thesis discusses the psyche's tripartite role in the character of Mei Lee in Turning Red film using Freud’s theory of Psychoanalysis. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the three parts of Mei Lee's mind depicted in the film. The researcher uses qualitative descriptive research methods and a psychoanalysis approach. The result of this thesis is Mei Lee, as the main character is a unique character through the examination of the characterizations, the researcher reveals the personality of Mei Lee. The id of her depicted in the film are uncontrollable, troublemaker, childish, hallucinatory, mood swings and detached from reality. On the other hand, the ego of Mei Lee is worried, regretful, reduces selfishness, is aware of her surroundings, polite, patient, responsible, and rational thinking. The last is that the superego of Mei Lee is polite, a servant of God, more reasonable thinking, obedient, intelligent, stable behavior, sympathetic and forgiving. Furthermore, the findings show that those depictions are from conflicts with other minor characters, self-conflict, dialogues, direct descriptions from the author, and related events in each chapter.
