This research concerned on the deconstruction of The Phantom character in Gaston Leroux’s novel The Phantom of The Opera. The theory used in this research was Derrida’s deconstruction theory. The research used qualitative research method in order to apply deconstruction theory in the interpretation of the Phantom character in The Phantom of The Opera novel. The data used in this research was obtained from The Phantom of The Opera novel. The researcher discovers the binary oppositions through identifying the previous fixed meaning of the Phantom character in the novel. These fixed meaning are the privileged side, because they have dominant texts that describing them in the texts, while the other one is unprivileged. In this research, the previous fixed meaning consider that the Phantom is an isolated person, inferior person, and evil person. Derrida’s deconstruction theory reversed these meanings to obtain novel views within the contents. After analyzing deeply and widely the texts, the Phantom is proven that he is a free person, superior person, and good person. Then at the end, The Phantom of The Opera is a story about a Phantom that kill people and isolate himself with the society and only cares about Christine, but after further investigation, it turns out the Phantom is a free character because nobody can control him and do as he please, he also not only cares about Christine, but he also cares about his friend the Persian and Raoul that he acknowledges to be Christine’s spouse. The Phantom shows that he is far more superior to other character, because he is the only one that can sing ‘like an angel from heaven’ and he doesn’t shy about teaching or even doing a good deed when other people is mistreated.
