Liberalfeminism focuses on the freedom that men get. It is about the freedom of choiceand the freedom of women to express themselves since they have their individual autonomy. In this study, the researcher found that Paikea the main character in the WhaleRider film, struggles and opposes her culture to get equal rights with men. To find theliberal feminism of the main character in the Whale Rider film, there are two problems formulated in this thesis. The first problem is to find out the characteristics of Paikea through her characterization. The second is to identify liberal feminism as a woman through Paikea’s characteristics. The method of this study is liberal feminismand descriptive qualitative. The result of this study, the researcher found five characterizations of Paikea’s that indicate
feminism. Namely critical seen from characterization through external action, stubborn seen from characterization through external action, brave seen from characterization through external action, persistent seen from characterization through external action, and smart.
