Mimicry and Hybridity in Shanghai Noon Film by Tom Dey
This research is purposed to examine the mimicry and hybridity represented in Shanghai Noon film by using Homi K. Bhabha’s theory. This research is focused on how the main characters develop himself with western culture and create a new way of life. The forms of mimicry and hybridity represented by Chinese character in Shanghai Noon film are based on his practice in applying Western culture where these practice are based on to accomplish his journey. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to examine cultural adaptation by analyzing the context of the events in the story as well as how the main character with each event around him. In the Shanghai Noon film, the researcher found forms of mimicry and hybridity that the main character did for accomplish his journey. It can be seen through a view aspects such as clothes by combining cowboy’s attire and Chinese traditional attire,
from language by using English as a way to communicate , and from behavior by imitating the Western’s mannerism.
