This research aims to analyze the types of politeness strategies used by the main character in Clouds (2020) film, and to find out the factors that influence the main character in using politeness strategies in Clouds (2020) film. This research is a qualitative research with content analysis approach. The data source of this research is the script or the English subtitle of the film. The data were taken from the dialogues between the main character with other characters containing politeness strategies that were proposed by Brown and Levinson. The result shows that Zach used sixteen positive politeness strategies and five negative politeness strategies. Additionally, for the factor that influenced the choice of politeness strategies, Zach used the two factors: consisting of twelve intrinsic payoffs with eight positive and four negative payoffs, and nine social distances as one of the sociological variable circumstances. For the conclusion, it can be seen that the positive politeness strategies were more dominant than the negative politeness ones because Zach tended to use the positive politeness strategy when he was talking with his family and friends. He applied the strategy to make the message be accepted well by the hearer and to maintain their face and also because the situations in Clouds film were mostly informal. As for the factor, intrinsic payoffs became more dominant than the sociological variable circumstances because he tended to expect a payoff from his interlocutor when they were in a conversation.
