Ecocriticism exists because of the rise of environmental problems and the lack of environmental awareness by humans on earth. Climate change affects the ecology and rise the ecological issues. Lack of environmental awareness increases the risk of destruction of the planet Earth caused by humans themselves. Ecocriticism examines environmental issues in the representation of literary works. The aim of this research are to analyzing representations of nature using Garrad's ecocritical theory and the interconnection of nature and culture using Newmark's cultural concept as shown in the film Avatar (2009) by James Cameron. The analysis found nineteen data contained representations of nature which were categorized into environmental issues including pollution, position, pastoral, wilderness, apocalypse, dwelling, animals and future: the earth. The representation of nature was deliver by the condition of the environment that affected the living creatures around it. Culture can be defined as habits, human attitudes, language, social life, customs, and religion. The interconnection of nature and culture which is categorized in the concept of culture includes ecology, cultural objects, social culture, social organization, gestures, habits. The interconnection of nature and culture was based on the environmental conditions of a group, this environment generates ideas which then become the basic foundation of a group or organization and creates a diverse culture in each group.
