Liannita, D. 2023. Gender Representation in Visual Images in “Pathway to English” Textbooks Series Used in Indonesia. Samarinda: Unpublished Thesis. Mulawarman University. The study investigated on how visual images display how gender being represented in the Pathway to English textbooks series. The issue of gender being inequal in regards to the representation especially in textbooks has been due for a long time. Thus, the study aimed to discover how the gender reflected in visual images and what kind of representation being reflected in the visual images. As the study going on, the researcher managed to identify the reflection of gender representation into three main findings and three thematic discussions followed. The study employed qualitative method in the pursuit of the objectives of through content analysis in exploring and discovering the findings and elaborated them based on the visibility, activities and occupations displayed in the visual images of the textbooks. The study discovered that (1) there was still under-representation of female in the visual images in the matter of visibility in the visual images (2) there were several occupations being designated toward male and female, however females were shown to be more in practical and professional world instead only being the housewives, (3) the activities for male and female were also different as females were directed to domestic conducts more than males, but males were more into sport, and successful activities, (4) several famous public portrayals in the visual images were also male-focused than females, (5) lastly, as there was the tendency that males were portrayed most likely to be more successful, yet females were displayed to conduct the negative ones.
