Superiority Complex Shown by Aladdin in Aladdin 1992 Film
This research aims to analyze superiority complex theory by Alfred Adler and how it depicted using characterization of Aladdin 1992 which focuses on Superiority Complex. This research was a qualitative one with a psychoanalysis literary approach. In this research, researcher took data from Aladdin‘s actions, dialogues, narrations of other characters towards the him, related to his superiority complex in the story from the film. The researcher had identified scenes that depicted three aspects of superiority complex in Aladdin‘s character and interpreted how Aladdin shows his superiority complex in the story, which are self-interest, boasting and confidence, and healthy ambitious. For the characterization that shows aspects of superiority complex, there were five categories which are appearance, dialogue, external actions, internal actions and reactions from other character. Aladdin developed confidence in his life because his harsh life and poor condition, and he is confident in his skill and talent to be better than the others. After the superiority period, Aladdin finally achived his goals of becoming prince by marrying princess Jasmine and rule his life. To overcome this superiority feelings, Aladdin applying three aspects of superiority complex according to Alfred Adler‘s theory. Although from the beginning of the film until the end of the film, the researcher did not find any mentions about characterization through reactions of other character.
