Nurhayati 1614025089 "Personality Traits of Michael Berg in The Reader Novel by Bernhad Schlink" Most people's personalities show the diversity that makes them unique individuals. Personality traits reflect a person's characteristics, especially in social interactions. This study aims to identify the personality traits of Michael Berg's character in the novel The Reader and find out the personality traits that affect his guilt using McCrae and Costa's theory which consists of neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness as well as characterization theory by Kenney. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data analyzed are words taken from the novel The Reader. The results of this study show that Michael Berg has a high level of neuroticism, characterized by a tendency to experience negative emotions, self-consciousness, anxiety, impulsiveness, and vulnerability to stress. He also has traits of extraversion, assertiveness, and gregariousness. Her openness to new experiences is reflected in her high curiosity and appreciation of the arts. She is also friendly and conscientious in her actions. This research provides a deeper insight into the relationship between personality traits and emotions, particularly guilt in The Reader novel.
