One of the distinctive aspects of language is the idiom, which usually comes with a different meaning from the words from which it is constructed. Students frequently disregard the usage of idioms, and they still do not frequently use them. However, the teacher has not provided much sufficient information in idiom learning. This study focused on English idiomatic expressions and contextual meaning found in Turning Red movie. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis as the technique for analyzed the data. In collecting data, the researcher used documentation because the data were taken from Turning Red movie. The data was analyzed by using McCarthy and O’Dell (2010) theory about seven types of idiomatic expression. The theory used to explain the idiomatic expression were used by characters in Turning Red movie. The result shows 29 data of idiomatic expressions found in the movie. From seven types of idiomatic expressions only five were found in Turning Red movie. The types of idiomatic expression found was binomials, euphemisms, clichés, proverbs, and fixed statement. Cliches and fixed statements are types of idiomatic expressions that frequently appear in the movies. On the other hand, binomial idiom is the types of idiomatic expression that appears the least frequently in Turning Red movie. By deducing the actual meaning from the context of the sentence in the movie, it is possible to determine the implicit meanings of idiomatic expressions. Additionally, when translating idiomatic expressions, it's important to consider the context of the sentence in which they are used as well as their location in an idiom dictionary.
