Foreign Language Anxiety Experienced by the Eleventh Graders at SMAN 9 Samarinda
Abstract: The main problem of this study is foreign language anxiety among eleventh graders at SMA Negeri 9 Samarinda. The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of student anxiety and to find out the most prominent types of foreign language anxiety that students experience when learning English as a foreign language. In this study, researchers used a quantitative approach method, and one type of quantitative research methodology is a survey design. The participants in this study were all eleventh graders. The total of participants who contributed to this research were 115 students consisting of 41 male students and 74 female students. Moreover, FLCAS was utilized to investigate the students’ anxiety levels, and the most prominent type of foreign language anxiety that students experienced in this study. The findings revealed that 51% of students had high anxiety level, 39% of students had moderate anxiety level, and 10% of students had low anxiety level when learning a foreign language. The results of this study suggested that the most prominent type of foreign language anxiety that students had when studying English was the Fear of Negative Evaluation, based on descriptive statistics. The second aspect was Communication Apprehension and the last one was Test Anxiety
