Analysis of Racism in Detroit Film
Racism is the belief that subordinate racial groups are biologically or culturally inferior to dominant racial groups, as well as a set of institutional conditions that encourage racial group inequality proving that one's beliefs can be categorized based on characteristics that are usually seen in a person, such as skin color. This research discusses racism against black people in the film Detroit. This study uses qualitative research methods, Racism theory and literature studies. The purpose of this study is to examine what are the level of racism and the negative effect of racism experienced by black people in Katryn's Detroit film. The results of this research indicate the fact that black characters in this films experience racism. There are three levels of racism such as institutionalized racism, personally mediated racism and internalized racism. Also, there are five negative effect of racism such as disfavor society, physical violence, emotional violence, psychological violence and inferiority complex. All treatment of racism is clearly illustrated in Detroit films.
