Deixis is the technical term (from Greek) for one of the most basic things we do with an utterance which means “pointing” via language. The purposes of this research were to identify types of deixis that is most commonly used in
Pamungkas’ album Walk The Talk song lyrics and to analyze meaning references of deixis that is used in Pamungkas’ album Walk The Talk song lyrics. In conducting this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method with content analysis. The data were thirteen songs of Walk the Talk album by Pamungkas. In collected the data the researcher used document. After that, the researcher analyzed the data based on Yule theory in pragmatic. Then, the data were validated by using theory triangulation. From all the data analysis taken from song lyrics in Pamungkas’ album Walk The Talk, the researcher found that the singer used three types of deixis which are person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. The data showed there were 514 person deixis, 57 spatial deixis, and 31 temporal deixis. The most commonly types that used in this album is person deixis. The researcher also found meaning references of deixis that used in Pamungkas’ album Walk The Talk song lyrics. The meaning references of deixis in this album have different meaning based on the context song lyrics. For example, person deixis “You” refers to the girl. Spatial deixis “Here” refers to the place when the singer staring at the girl. Temporal deixis “Now” refers to the time when it is midnight. In conclusion, the use of deixis in song lyrics can help the reader to understand what the singer means.
