CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER ARTHUR FLECK IN JOKER MOVIE
Movie is a form of visual storytelling that uses moving images and sound to convey a narrative or message. Joker movie is one of them that could show the character personality in movie. This research attempts to analyzed the personality and social relationship in this movie. The source of the data is Joker movie. This research used qualitative descriptive method. While the theories used on this study to further analyzed the data were McCrae and Costa (1987) and Goldberg (1990) theories of types of personality and Max Weber (1949) theories of social relationship. The finding of this research was, 5 types of the Big Five Inventory theory were found. The type that appears the most was Neuroticism. For social relationships, it was found that Arthur's previously good social relationships became bad because he felt lied to, betrayed, and belittled by the people around him, so in the end he did not have good social relationships. In conclusion, all the five domains could only be found if the character was well described and had depth characterization, which mainly delivered by the major character. Also, the five domains of the Big Five Inventory were in line with the social relationship. Lastly, using literature for teaching English was proved to be important to support the improvement, not only in aspect of language but also in the student’s character building.
