THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MU-EPT LISTENING SCORE AND LISTENING COMPREHENSION SCORE OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OF MULAWARMAN UNIVERSITY
The purposes of the study were : (1) to find out the MU-EPT listening scores of English Department students at Mulawarman University. (2) to find out the listening comprehension scores of English Department students at Mulawarman University. (3) to find out whether there is significant correlation between MU-EPT listening score and listening comprehension score of English Department students at Mulawarman University. The design of this study was correlational research design using quantitative approach. The population of this study the was the graduated students from academic year 2016 at English Department of Mulawarman University with a total population of 41 students. Then, The researcher chose 40 students as the sample with specific criteria : students who graduated from English Department, students who took the MU-EPT Test, and students who took the Listening Comprehension 4. The data were taken from data scores students' MU-EPT listening and students' Listening Comprehension. The research findings showed that on MU-EPT listening, many students got high scores, with a mean score was 56.4, and on Listening Comprehension 4, many students also got high scores with a mean of 73.7. It indicates that many students had good listening skills. Furthermore, as the result of the study showed a strong and positive correlation between MU-EPT listening and Listening comprehension 4, it means when Listening Comprehension 4 increases, then MU-EPT listening increases as well in the same way. The calculation results show the rxy = 0.754 > r table = 0.403 at a level significance of 1%. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It can be concluded that the learning process on Listening Comprehension 4 in English Department students of Mulawarman University plays a role in improving students' skills and abilities in MU-EPT Listening students.
