EFL Teacher's Perception Toward the Use of Google Classroom as Media in Online Learning

The aim of this study is to find out EFL teacher’s perception toward the use of Google Classroom as media in online learning and to find out how student discipline is when submitting assignments through Google Classroom. This study utilizes a qualitative study using a case study method. To analyze the data, the researcher used the Flow model by Miles and Huberman (1994) theory. The participants of this study are two EFL teachers from SMA N 1 Bontang. The findings of this study found that the participants had positive and negative perceptions of using Google Classroom as a learning media while online. The researcher saw that participants in this study had positive perceptions of Google Classroom and its features in it, and the features in Google Classroom were good for use during a pandemic. But participants did not feel comfortable and did not recommend using Google Classroom as the main learning media because it was less attractive and less comfortable to teach, leading to a negative perception. In this study, the researcher also found that in general, students submit their assignments on time, with only a few students occasionally submitting their assignments late via Google Classroom. The participant took actions to overcome student late submission is by giving punishment in the form of a score reduction, and there were also those who did not give punishment. The problems that are often faced by the participants are the originality of student assignments and student honesty when doing assignments. The solution carried out by the participants is browsing the internet and matching student answers, and contacting students via personal chat on WhatsApp.
